Max recently moved to Miami from Berkeley, CA. He studied jazz and classical bass in school and acoustic music outside of school. He believes that learning acoustic music has made him immensely better with aural skills. So Max wishes to provide similar learning opportunities via guitar lessons in Miami.

Max has been teaching private guitar lessons in Miami and beyond for seven years, and he has taught at over a dozen music camps. He previously taught at Manning Music Studios in Berkeley, CA. He is a founder of the Miami Acoustic Project, which offers bi-weekly workshops at Fairchild Tropical Garden all throughout Spring, 2019.

Started Music Career:

At age 6, Max’s dad bought him a guitar and took him to his first bluegrass festival. For more than ten years, he played in a band with his family called Oak Grove, in which each family member plays a different instrument (You can check out their album “Tangled Roots” on Spotify). Although not every family has time to form a band, Max believes that learning to play acoustic music is a great family activity!

Max is pursuing Bachelor of Music in Studio Music & Jazz from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, with a Minor in Education.

Area of Focus:

Acoustic Music, Bluegrass, Old-Time, Jazz, Music Theory, Practice Skills

Favorite Aspect of Teaching:

Max loves building students confidence through teaching, and equipping students with skills that allow them to feel like independent, capable learners!

Max has performed throughout the United States playing bass with GRAMMY-winner, Laurie Lewis, and her band called  The Right Hands. He also has played at the Grammys (2015 and 2016) and has played with jazz groups in eight countries!
