Voice, piano, guitar, and ukulele

Vania Junco is an award-winning jazz vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger,
composer, and teacher. Born and raised in Miami, Vania has spent her whole life
learning how to use music as a way to relate to the world and make it a better place.
She has extensive performance experience in ensemble and solo settings across the
country – offstage, she is an avid composer and singer-songwriter. Vania loves to teach
and tutor students in the community that raised her and gave her her own passion for
music. Growing up, she served as a student leader in her middle and high schools’
performing ensembles, and went on to assist for other local ensembles, teach private
lessons, and tutor in music theory. Currently, Vania is studying Media Writing and
Production at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.

Started Music Career:

Vania’s passion for music was sparked in elementary school, where she joined her
school’s choir and took her first piano lessons. She found her love for sharing music
with others there, and has been involved in Miami’s music community ever since.

Vania is in her second year pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Media Writing and
Production at the Frost School of Music.

Instruments/Areas of Focus:

Contemporary & jazz voice, guitar, piano, ukulele, music theory, aural skills,
songwriting, performance skills, and fun!
Favorite Aspect of Teaching:

Vania loves instilling a positive attitude and passion for music in her students. She
knows that music can easily become stressful or over-academic, and strongly believes
that music should be something fun for everyone involved!

As an ensemble singer, Vania grew up singing in middle and high school level choirs,
including the Miami Children’s Chorus. She went on to perform with ensembles at
Carnegie Hall in New York City, in Los Angeles with A Cappella Academy, in the
Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World, and in Florida All-State choirs and
festivals. As a soloist, Vania performs in various locations around Miami, and very often
at the Frost School of Music. She currently sings with Frost’s Jazz Vocal 1 ensemble,
and plays guitar for the school’s R&B Ensemble.

In 2018, Vania was the recipient of the National YoungArts Foundation Honorable
Mention award in the discipline of Jazz Voice. That same year, she won a Downbeat
Student Music award for Outstanding Vocal Jazz Performance.
