Originally from Indiana, Emma has been performing both piano and voice for over 10 years. Emma studied both classical and jazz voice as well as jazz piano before coming to University of Miami and studying with Dr. Charlie Christenson, Professor Alison Wedding and Dr. Kate Reid. Emma’s extensive performance experience helps her to apply the skills taught in lessons directly into the music industry outside of the classroom.
Emma has been teaching piano for four years and voice classes in Miami for three years. She has taught both privately and as a TA for the Miami Children’s Chorus Young Contemporary and Contemporary choirs as well as a TA for the Butler Jazz Camp in Indianapolis.
Started Music Career:
In Elementary school, Emma was a member of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir when she first heard the music of Duke Ellington. Instantly, she was enamored and has been studying jazz music ever since.
Emma is in her junior year pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Studio Music & Vocal Jazz at The Frost School of Music.

Favorite Aspect of Teaching:
Emma enjoys inspiring and being inspired by her students. She hopes to encourage and develop passion, creativity, and love for music in her students.
As a soloist, she has performed in various venues and festivals including The Benedict Music Tent (Aspen) as the vocalist for the Aspen Summer JAS Academy, The Telluride Jazz Festival, The Jazz Kitchen (Indy), Indy Jazzfest, The New World Center (Miami), and the Baryshnikov Center (NYC). As an ensemble singer, Emma is a member of Frost’s top vocal group Extensions.
Emma also has a passion for multi-disciplinary collaborations. In 2018, Emma composed and recorded an original score and song, “You’ve Been On My Mind”, for a short film, directed by Justin Park. This won the “Best Original Score” award at the All American High School Film Festival.
