Born and raised in Tampa FL, Theron Hegarty is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, teacher and composer. Theron has been practicing music for over eight years, beginning at age 11 with violin and later gravitating to guitar and vocal performance. Under Katherine Ng, Theron’s high school orchestra received straight superiors for three years in a row. At age 14, Theron began a program in high school that earned him his CDA, certifying him through the state to teach ages 3-5 and cementing his love for teaching. At age 16, Theron was admitted to a music production program at New York University, studying the art of production and beginning his passion for composition. From the knowledge he gained, Theron started selling his compositions and has been building a portfolio ever since, hoping to carve a career in film scoring. Following high school, Theron was accepted to both Florida International and University of New Orleans on full scholarship to study music. Although self-taught, Theron was admitted to the classical vocal program at FIU, studying under Elanor Mendoza for a year before finding his passion for jazz music and becoming a student of Dr. Lisanne Lyons. Theron has performed with Carmen Lundy and the New World Symphony for Mary Lou William’s tribute concert and has sung at multiple churches through Miami, most notably with the FIU Concert choir for their performance of Handel’s Messiah. Theron also currently assists the library at FIU by restoring old and rare compositions/recordings for the Diaz-Alaya collection, as well as performed for the collections release. Theron Hegarty currently attends Florida Internal University, practicing jazz vocal performance under Dr. Lisanne Lyons.
